Kitset Instructions

Cape Cod Chair Assembly Instructions

We have supplied 3 x different lengths of screws, Short, Medium and Long.  Screw them in till they are flush or even deeper when using the medium or long screws. If any screws in this kit lose grip when screwing just re-screw on an angle. For appearances you can screw the 3 long screws on top of each arm approx. 5mm past flush, you can then fill with builders fill.

Start on a flat surface. Find the 2 bases that are pre screwed and swivel the parts so they line up with the pencil marks. Check image 1 for the required shape. Screw through the pre drilled holes with the SHORT screws supplied  (8 screws)

Find the curved part that has 16 holes in it. With the longest edge at the top screw with LONG screws through the offset holes 2nd in from each end into the pilot holes in the back braces as in Image 2  (2 screws)

Screw one of the three thin battens with rounded edges across the front edges of the main supports with LONG screws as shown in Image 3  (2 screws)

Screw with LONG screws the short batten that is not bevelled to the bottom edge of the back braces as shown in Image 4    (2 screws)

This board has no bevel or screw holes and fits between the legs underneath the main supports and is secured with LONG screws through the holes in the legs.  Refer Image 5   (4 screws)

Find the seven back boards and screw them with MEDIUM screws to the curved back edge of the seat board. Start with the longest board and screw it between the pencil marks in the middle. Start the screws slightly nearer the bottom edge than the top as the screws angle up slightly because of the angle on the edge. Then the next longest pair of boards between the lines either side of the longest one. Repeat for the next 2 pairs of boards with the shortest pair last. Refer Image 6   (7 screws)

Now fit the seat board with the back boards attached to the main frame, aligning the back outer edges with the pencil marks as shown by the arrow in  Image 7  Screw with MEDIUM screws.   (4 screws)

Next fit the other curved board firmly behind the back boards and screw to the main frame with MEDIUM screws.   Refer Image 8    (2 screws)

Align the remaining seat boards as shown in Image 9 and screw with MEDIUM screws. The wide board should have an approx. 10mm gap and the battens are then spaced evenly approx. 20mm apart.   (8 screws)

Screw with MEDIUM screws the curved arm supports to the leg. Be sure to align the top edge flush with the top of the leg. The first screw goes through the hole in the leg. Refer Image 10. The other goes through the hole in the bottom of the arm support. Repeat on the other side.     (4 screws)

Screw with LONG screws the arm boards on top of the leg and arm support making sure to align the holes close to the centres of the boards underneath. Refer Image 11   (6 screws)

Screw with a LONG screw the back of the arm board through the hole in the back support applying hand pressure if necessary to ensure alignment. The screw should go through the centre edge of the arm board and the end should be flush with the back edge of the back support.  Refer Image 12.  Repeat on the other side. (2 screws)

Screw with SHORT screws the back boards to the curved support lightly using one screw in each. I find it easiest to start with the outside boards and then the long middle board then the rest evenly spaced in between. When happy with the spacing, screw in all the screws firmly. Refer Image 13   (14 screws)

Side Table Assembly Instructions

Sit the leg on its widest end on a flat surface and screw a side board into the corner of the inside of the leg through the angled pilot holes with MEDIUM screws. The side board should pull up snug into the corner as shown in Image 1

Repeat for all four sides and legs as shown in Image 2

Now turn this base assembly up the right way and screw with MEDIUM screws the three top supports into the base as shown in Image 3. The centre board has a different screw pattern to the outer (there are pencil marks on the top of the side boards for alignment). The outer edge of the board should over hang the outside edge of the legs by approximately 3-5mm. The holes used to secure these boards are shown ringed as in Image 3. 14 screws.

Now find the longest board for the middle and secure with two SHORT screws to the centre support board. Please note that some times short screws are prone to lose grip on the timber. If this happens, just rescrew on an angle. This will secure them strongly. There are lines across the centre underside of all the table top boards to align with the centre support board. Now align the two shortest boards on the outside and secure with SHORT screws to the support boards as shown in Image 4

Now space all the top boards in order of length across the table top as shown in Image 5. When happy with the spacing secure to the support boards with SHORT screws.

Footrest Assembly Instructions

Start with the 2 curved boards with curve up as in Image 1

Now screw with medium screws one of the battens between the 2 back pencil marks as shown in Image 2

Now turn the assembly up the other way and attach the wide batten with 4 holes in it between the pencil marks with 4 MEDIUM screws. To make sure the assembly is square you could align it with the walls in the corner of a room. It should look like Image 3

Turn the assembly over again and attach another batten with 2 medium screws in front of the remaining pencil marks as shown by the arrow in Image 4

Now attach the remaining 7 battens spacing them 20mm apart. The easiest way to do this is to use another batten on its edge and butt the next up against it while screwing as shown in Image 5

The footrest should then look like that shown in Image 6

Now lift the front of your chair and slot the footrest in between the leg brace board and front batten of the chair as in Image 7. The first footrest batten you attached (shown by arrow) acts as a stopper behind the chairs front batten and you can fit the vinyl buffers supplied to it and the top of the leg brace after painting as shown later.

Now lower the chair and slide the footrest fully out and the stopper batten should stop it sliding right off the top of the leg brace as shown by the arrow in Image 8. If it doesn’t stop it in the correct position you just have to shift the batten forward or back slightly. Each chair can vary slightly.

Now slide the footrest carefully back until the wide batten (as shown by arrow in Image 9) touches the leg brace. It may get jammed halfway back. If it does, don’t worry, the leg brace needs to come off to fit the vinyl buffers and so you can lower the leg brace by about 5mm after step 11. This should be enough to give good clearance.

After painting, screw with SHORT screws 2 of the vinyl buffers supplied to each end of the batten inside the curved boards as shown by arrows in Image 10. It is easier to remove the batten first. They are spread over the edge of the batten and screwed with two SHORT screws until the screw is sunk into it. They are to protect the paint.

Now remove the leg brace from the chair. Screw with SHORT screws the remaining 2 buffers to the top of each side of the leg brace. The screws should be minimum 30mm from the ends to avoid clashing with the long screws that secure the leg brace and so the footrest slides on them. Refer Image 11. Finally, screw the brace back. A little lower if required as described in step 9. There are fresh long screws supplied if required.

Round Table Assembly Instructions

Sit the leg on its widest end on a flat surface and screw a side board into the corner of the inside of the leg through the angled pilot holes with MEDIUM screws. The side board should pull up snug into the corner as shown in Image 1

Repeat for all four sides and legs as shown in Image 2

Now turn this base assembly up the right way and screw with MEDIUM screws the three top supports into the base as shown in Image 3. The round table has the longest board across the middle (there should be pencil marks on the top of the side boards for alignment). The outer edge of the board should over hang the outside edge of the legs by approximately 3-5mm. The holes used to secure these boards are shown ringed as in Image 4 14 screws

Now find the longest board for the middle and secure with two SHORT screws to the centre support board. Please note that some times short screws are prone to lose grip on the timber. If this. happens, just re-screw on an angle. This will secure them strongly.  There are lines across the centre underside of all the table top boards to align with the centre support board. Now align the two shortest boards on the outside and secure with SHORT screws to the support boards as shown in Image 5

Now space all the top boards in order of length across the table top as shown in Image 6. When happy with the spacing secure to the support boards with SHORT screws
